REFLECTION

(MA.CLARISSA C. DE RAMOS)

Student Teaching is the actual Teaching and our major role and responsibility. During this period, we need to act like a professional teacher. We are now to apply all the knowledge and good things we got during our observation period. But before that, there is some orientations that were given to us on how to perform our duties and responsibilities’ as a student teacher. All teacher with concern especially our pre- service supervisor, Mrs. Margarita A. Delos Santos, with our dean, Dr. Gloria B. Osea, for us to be ready and capable enough to handle different kinds of student and apply all principles and methods that we have learned in our years of schooling. Together with my co-practice teachers, we never choose the year level we want to teach but our critic teacher assigned us in the year level that they handle. I don’t know how to start on my teaching, but my students is easy manage/handle & I can teach them well. It was November 24, 2014, when I assigned to teach in Grade 7-San Miguel, Grade 8-Diaz, Grade 9 (Mixed Section), & 4th year students but I request my cooperating teacher, Mr. Elmer C. Trinidad to observe in his class first to prepare myself to teach. During my first week of teaching, it was very hard for me to act like a real teacher, making four (4) lesson plans and visual aids at night. I felt tired during the first week of my teaching. I was always thinking what I am going to do and how can I execute my lesson well. But I was lucky enough to have very approachable and supportive teachers because there was always willing to help and support me, share ideas and suggestions to the fullest. Another important part of teaching was on how to deal and building rapport with my students. During this period, I felt the joy as I was imparting knowledge to them and in return, they gave me support and respect.

Teaching is a difficult profession. It is not something which can be paid. Teaching requires effort, dedication, perseverance and a lot of patience. Most teachers who really teach know about how crucial their role is to the society. I’ve come to realize how serious the profession I’m pursuing is during my practice teaching. Teaching TLE-Computer Hardware Servicing (CHS), Consumer Electronics Servicing (CES) & WEB Design/WEB Development in the MNHS students had already been quite frustrating, what more when I had been given the opportunity to have my practice teaching in another school, without the materials and equipment? It was exhausting! I had not only doubled my efforts in teaching ICT there.

I had given my whole effort to make the students learn CHS, CES & WEB DESIGN from my teaching. I had been told by professors from my former school, and my university, that it will not be an easy task. But, I saw everything as a challenge; as a huge opportunity for me to improve. And so when I started teaching ICT, I prepared myself to the scenarios that might happen. Somehow, I’ve manage some plans. But of course, not all of the scenarios that happened on my first teaching were according to my plans. For instance, I did not think that they would not recognize me as their teacher; they thought I was an idiot student who’ll be joining their class.

I can imagine how frustrating their ICT class because of Lack of Equipment. Actually, I can transparently see how hard it was in their faces during class. But the good thing is that there were students who are willing to try, to make mistakes, to express themselves in ICT, to connect to me during class, and to continuously learn. Those are the things that make me strive harder to be the better teacher that they need. 25th November, 2014 this would be the real first day of being a student teacher here in MNHS. I learned that it was hard teaching the students because of the lack of use of the technology, but there are some students who are really trying their best to learn the gadgets/technology.
