MILAOR HIGH SCHOOL

In Retrospect

By. Mrs. Maximina M. Begino, Mrs. Sylvia S. Mejia and Charly Claro Rosari

Milaor High School (formerly Milaor Barangay High School – MBHS) was formally opened in 1969. Undeniably instrumental were the persevering efforts of Mrs. Felomina Calayo, the PTA and Officials of the Municipal Government of Milaor, Camarines Sur. The creation of the school was a timely response to the incessant clamor for bringing public secondary education closer to the Barangays.

At the onset, Milaor Central School played host to the maiden operations of MBHS. Since the school has no ready facilities to work with, activities have to “tip-toe” from one place to another. At one time classes were held at the household of the late Angela Alarmado Sumayao in Barangay San Vicente. Later on, found refuge and held lecture sessions at the residence of Mrs. Lourdes B. Repane in Barangay Amparado. In 1972, however, because of the stringent demand for additional classrooms to address the swell of enrollees, MBHS was again transferred to the present day site of San Jose Elementary School. Barely two (2) years after, the school moved back to Milaor Central School, by this timea four-room Marcos Type Building was assigned for its use and all undertakings were under the tutelage of a mother school – the Pili National High School.

Significant developments followed. In 1987, Milaor Barangay High School was converted to a full-pledged Nationalized High School. As an effect, MBHS was renamed Milaor High School (MHS). Following shortly, in 1988, MHS finally marked its crowning transfer to a permanent location, a place which would later be known MIlaor High School Campus. The site was a part property of San Jose Elementary School, acquired as a result of the unremitting and cooperative endeavors of former OIC Mayor Ernesto G. Verdadero, the late School Principal Consolacion de Hitta and the generous spirited PTA Officials of San Jose Elementary School.

The endless quest for growth and development continued for Milaor High School under the competent leadership of Mr. Diosdado M. San Antonio, Principal II. Educational provisions including information technology facilities and physical infrastructures were obtained. Cutting-edge instructional policies were introduced towards educational excellence.

Today, Milaor High School has metamorphosed into one of the highly innovative and acknowledged institutions of learning providing quality secondary education. The school can now boast of youthful men and women who have made names for themselves.. men and women who have joined the ranks of professionals and made MHS highly proud and fulfilled.
